Today I am going to review elf Studio High Definition powder which is an absolute favorite of many of the popular YouTube beauty gurus. I had mentioned about this product in my elf haul post. The shade that I own is corrective yellow. What I love about elf is that this brand manufactures quality products at reasonable price.

It comes in an elegant matte black tub like container with a screw cap. Once you open it, you would see a puff beneath which there is a plastic cover that you are supposed to peel off to expose the holes for the powder to come out. The puff is well-made, cottony, thick, and clings to a smallest amount of powder. The sifter area inside is deep and large so my large kabuki brush fits in nicely. But it doesn’t end here. The downside of the packaging is that it is quite bulky and messy which makes it difficult to carry. As it is a loose powder, no matter how careful you are with handling the container, as soon as you open the lid, the powder gets EVERYWHERE. It’s so messy that I wish ELF would put it in a more secure container, because it really is a hassle to deal with.
When I saw a lot of YouTubers raving about elf HD powder, I was stoked to try it out. I was a tad bit skeptical about the shade ‘sheer’ against my skin as I thought it may leave my face with a weird cast so I though of going for corrective yellow. And if you are not aware elf HD powder in sheer is considered to be a dupe of Makeup forever’s HD powder whereas the corrective yellow is assumed to work similar to Ben Nye Banana Powder.
It is a nice finely milled powder that I apply over my CC cream with a stippling brush to set my face. I love the nice soft texture of the powder as it feels very light on the skin. The yellow color really brightens up my face and would work well for most of the Indian skin tones. It adds moderate shine control without looking chalky and minimizes the appearance of pores and fine lines without sitting in them but if you have oily skin like me you would need to reapply this very frequently. This doesn’t keep me matte for more than 2 hours. This doesn’t show up in flash photography so that’s a plus. Also, it helps in cutting out minor redness along my nose and the cheeks. While this works fine over the oily areas of my face , it does show up on the dry parts so those of you with dry skin might find this grabbing onto dry patches. The best bet is to use a very soft brush and don’t pick up too much product while you apply it (anyway a little is enough to cover the entire face). I use it very sparingly by tapping out the excess from the brush and sweeping it along my T-zone and under the eyes (It doesn’t crease at all). I don’t use the puff that comes with this product for application, I rather use it as a stopper to cut down on mess. I’ve found it is much easier to control how much product you get on your brush by removing the puff and pressing your brush on the puff instead of dipping the brush directly into the powder. However the next time I buy this I am not going to pull the sticker off the sifter and I’ll rather poke the holes to get an appropriate amount of product out. elf should really try a sifter with holes that aren’t so big for such a fine product, that could possibly reduce the mess it creates
It have been using this daily to set my makeup and I am loving it for the glow it adds to my face

3.7/5 (minus points for the packaging and less staying power)
This is a good product for everyday use and it imparts a healthy glow to the skin . I love the mattified look it imparts to my face but I just wish it lasted a little longer. For those of you having dry skin need to use a very little amount and it would work great. If you are planning to get it, you should try getting it from someone who stays in US because on the Indian online websites you may have to pay a lot more .
